Learning Every Day

The Challenges, Successes, and Habits That Keep Me Going.

A Work in Progress

Running a web design business as a solopreneur or small agency owner takes more than technical skills—it takes discipline, organization, and habits that keep your business running smoothly. I know because I’ve spent over two decades building my own web design business while constantly refining my workflow, client management, and business processes. These habits aren’t something I’ve mastered—they’re something I continuously work on, just like you.

How It Started

In 1999, I picked up HTML for Dummies and built my first website. By 2002, I launched my web design business from my home office in West Seattle. Since then, I’ve built over 600 websites and manage more than 200 through my care plan service. Over two decades in, I’m still learning something new every day.

The Reality of Running a Web Design Business

Being a solopreneur or small agency owner isn’t easy. It’s more than just designing websites—you have to manage clients, price your services, handle marketing, stay productive, and keep up with finances. I’ve spent years figuring out what works and what doesn’t, but I’m still refining the habits that keep my business running smoothly.

Why I Started Web Designer Habits

After years of trial and error, I realized that success isn’t about working harder but creating sustainable habits. Web Designer Habits is my way of sharing what I’ve learned so you don’t have to figure it all out the hard way.

I’ve been active in the WordPress community for years, attending WordCamps, speaking at events, and running WebCami Cafe, a Facebook group for web designers. I know how valuable it is to connect with others who understand this business. My goal is to help make running a web design business easier, more profitable, and less overwhelming.

Progress, Not Perfection

I’m not perfect at any of this. I still struggle with some habits, just like you. But if you’re looking for practical ways to refine your business while keeping your sanity, you’re in the right place.

Let’s build better habits together.
