Intentional Time

As the year comes to an end (can you believe it?), it’s the perfect time to assess your schedule and plan for a more productive next year. How did the year go for you? Were there strengths in your schedule? Weaknesses you want to adjust? This week, let’s look back on our time management habits and set up a work schedule that works better in the new year.

Habit of the week:

Wk50-Set next year’s work schedule

Take a close look at how you used your time this year. Evaluate your meeting time versus work time and identify areas where time slipped away (like constantly checking emails). If you didn't try time blocking  this year, now's the time to do so. Review your time blocks to see what worked and where you need adjustments if you already use them.

Why it matters:

Your schedule isn't just about managing tasks—it's about feeling accomplished during your workdays. A well-structured schedule helps prevent burnout and ensures you work without feeling overwhelmed on a daily basis.

Quick Start Guide:

  1. Reflect on this year: What worked and what didn't? Did you have enough time for focused work? Did meetings take over your week?
  2. Assess Time Wasters: Were you checking emails too often or saying yes to meetings you didn't need?
  3. Try time Blocking: Dedicate specific times for focused work, meetings, and admin tasks.
  4. Set Boundaries: Limit weekend work or set designated days off to recharge.
  5. Commit to Change: Decide on adjustments and implement them starting in January.

Cami's Tips

Here's a glimpse of how I'm restructuring schedule next year:
Theme Days: I'm focusing on theme days for efficiency:
  • Monday: Communication, care tasks, and overdue items.
  • Tuesday: Billable time (projects/maintenance) with one small meeting block.
  • Wednesday: Billable time (projects/maintenance) with no meetings (this alternates with Tuesdays even other week)
  • Thursday: Meetings and admin work.
  • Friday: Catch up, my business, and overdue work.
  • Sunday Routine: Habits work and prepping for the week (never a full day)
  • This system works for me because it gives me clear direction daily and ensures I have time for everything, including downtime.

Routine Checkpoint:

Remember, you will find freedom in a well maintained schedule! Did you work every weekend this year? If so, it's time to adjust—plan for personal time, even just one day a week. Winging it never works long term.  Set patterns in your day to eliminate stress.
