Wk39-Take a Daily Walk

Step Outside

Paved path runs through a green, tree-filled park with patches of sunlight and a few parked cars visible in the background.

I’m currently in California visiting my sister, and before I left for this trip, my mornings were packed — and my daily walk was the first thing to go. I told myself I didn’t have time. But since I’ve been on the road, I’ve walked every morning, and I can feel the difference in my body and my stress levels.

Habit of the week:

Wk39-Take a Daily Walk

Get outside every day, even if it's just for 15 minutes. Walk without an agenda, let your mind wander, and give yourself space to reset.

And if you have a disability or mobility‑challenge, modified versions of walking still offer big benefit: using a mobility aid, doing seated marches, moving inside the house or yard, or gentle rolling if walking isn’t possible. Honor where your body is today, and move as you can.

Why it matters:

As web designers, we spend most of our days seated, staring at screens, processing feedback, juggling emails, and navigating project timelines. Walking breaks that pattern. A daily walk helps improves your mood, boosts energy, and gives your body a reset.

Quick Start Guide:

  • Block off 15–30 minutes on your calendar for walking—treat it like a meeting with yourself
  • Step away during natural transitions (after lunch, between meetings, or after a tough work session)
  • Don’t treat it like a workout—it’s not about distance or speed, it’s about presence

Cami's Tips

  • Let go of needing a “perfect” time—just step out the door when you can
  • If your mind starts spinning with work ideas, capture voice memos to revisit later
  • Use the time to listen to music, podcasts (skip the news), or nothing at all—some of my best ideas come in silence
  • On busy days, combine your walk with an errand, like mailing something or picking up coffee

Routine Checkpoint:

Remember, ask yourself, have you moved your body today? Are you giving yourself permission to unplug—even briefly—from your desk and tasks?

This habit isn’t about exercise goals. It’s about reconnecting to yourself, your surroundings, and your energy.
